Stories
Guest Speaker: Robin Gow, Bungalow55

Ron MacKinnon introduced Robin.

She gave a brief personal background on how she became involved with this group and talked about the various activities of Bungalow 55 and community garden, including the history of the property. She stated that their mandate was to be a place where people could come to meet and socialize with each other. To that end, every Friday they host a free community lunch for anyone who wishes to attend. It’s prepared by a guest chef. She reviewed some of the other activities that take place at Bungalow 55 including a drumming circle, and potentially, a games night for youth.

Robin explained that the organization survives on donations and government grants.

Rotary International:  Surf's Up:   Who says Rotary Cannot be Fun!

On 27 January, more than 30 SURF members gathered to support the Boys to Men Mentoring Foundation with a 1 Wave Challenge and 5K Beach Run. Rotarians from several clubs, Rotaractors from University of California San Diego, and Interactors from James Madison and University City high schools took part in an attempt to set a world record by exceeding 110 surfers on the same wave at the same time. Sadly, even with 172 surfers, we weren’t able to grab the record. But we did have tons of fun and raised $90,000 for charity!”
